Declarative Sentences (Aussagesatz) – A1 Grammar
Declarative sentences (Aussagesätze) give information or state a fact. In German declarative sentences, the verb is usually in the second position. The subject is most often in the first position, but other elements — like time, place, or an object — can also come first. In this case, the subject moves after the verb.
Examples:
- Sie studiert Psychologie. — She studies psychology.
- Hier ist kalt. — It is cold here.
- Mein Name ist Schneider. — My name is Schneider.
More on word order will be explained in Chapter 3.
